Workplace professionals are involved in activities which support decision-making in workplace strategy, design and management. These activities may be undertaken both by professionals within occupier client organisations and by consulting professionals .  


Workplace professionals have a variety of backgrounds and experience, but the common theme is working to ensure that workplaces are designed, delivered and managed such that they are efficient, effective and expressive as possible, aligned to organisational objectives.  

Workplace professionals work closely with colleagues in other aligned professions such as architecture, construction, facilities management, surveying, finance, HR, IT and sustainability.

Workplace professionals utilise a range of tools and techniques to deliver a variety of services. Roles are performed at project, building or portfolio level, as appropriate.

The range of workplace change activities includes the following:

  • Research, workplace strategy, portfolio analysis, benchmarking, design briefing, space budgeting, space planning, building appraisal, post occupation evaluation, benefits realisation and change management.
